RiseTime
I had a sneaky peek at a new luminaire from Selecon which looks like a competitor to source4 to be launched at PLS. Does that mean the end of Pacific ? Weaker rumour is the source will be LED. Any gossip ? I can't make it to frankfurt so would be interested on any newz..... PDD
According to Selecon, the two lantern models will exist together, along with the Acclaim, and will target different markets. As you've said, the new lantern is designed to compete with the Source 4. The spec sheet for the new lantern looks good, although I've forgotten the name of the lantern which we were told as well... It was something boring, to be honest. We weren't allowed to take away any information, so can't tell you anymore than that... except that the source is not LED. lampycakes
I am new to ‘replying’ on this site – I often read, but have never posted, but I had to join to reply to this. I saw this product at PSL it is called ‘Ze’ (though it was a prototype) and my initial thoughts were; At last a competitive lantern to the source4 Great functionality – all the usual Selecon features, easy lamp alignment, power disconnect when you remove the lamp holder, there plastic bit (so things don’t get hot, I think they call it ‘Cool Touch’). To change a lens tube was the easiest that I have ever seen, with good access to clean the lens. It has so obviously been made to take on the Source4, all the lens angles are the same as S4. The colour frame/holder is the same size as well as the gate size. It takes a GKV lamp 600w or 800w, I asked the guy about LED and he said ‘never say never’, so it seems to me that they are looking into it. To be honest, the output was very good (considering the stand was heavily lit), I would love to see a shoot out between the 2 fixtures – my feeling is that the new Selecon would have the upper hand (well, it is a newer design). The Pacific and Acclaim will still be current products, you will have to us the Pacific if you want the very narrow or very wide beam angles. He did give me a web address for the new fixture, but it is not working – I assume that they are making some final adjustments before they launch it. Selecon also had some LED 'PC' type fixtures there using the VLX LED modules, the output was great - though it was very much PROTOTYPE, they think it will be ready for PLASA. I hope you find this useful.
Lightbender
Hi, just some corections to your post:"It has so obviously been made to take on the Source4, all the lens angles are the same as S4. The colour frame/holder is the same size as well as the gate size. "There is also a "Selecon Special" 45-75 Zoom, which isn't in the S4 range. The gate size is smaller 64.5mm Diameter not 75mm A size as S4.

rossmck
all the source 4's I use take a b size gobo? You can use A or B in a Source Four ... the B size holder goes in the gobo slot, with the A size holder fitting in the slot intended for an iris. To confuse things further the Source Four Jr uses an M size gobo ;)
jamesholt
http://www.seleconlight.com/images/stories...oductLaunch.pdf (2.2 MB) Looks great! (interesting reference to the "new SL/Leko" from last year - seems they're keeping it but only for US and China)
the kid
But looking on page 18 they compare them and regard the SPX as being "better", and the Pacific "best".
madorangepanda
I'm impressed by its ability to output light whilst not plugged in.
Ian Blair
Have there been any light comparison tests been done between the Source 4 and the Selecon SPX Profile fixtures
Smiffy
I would imagine that it's a bit early on in their release for that. However it seems that Stage Electrics have some in stock now, so maybe they would be willing to organise something? Cheers Smiffy

Smiffy
This sort of thing is something that ALD are quite good at getting the Corporate Members to arrange. Sadly I'm still in Dubai finishing off a couple of projects and am not going to be back in the UK for a couple of months. I shall float the possibility in the ALD Members forum and see if there's any chance something could get set up. Cheers Smiffy
