monkeyman
Hi I've taken the one day course for PAT testing and I'm in the process of carrying out the testing for all my employers equipment. But I'm a bit stuck on a few things as to which test to use. I've got a microwave, a cordless kettle with a metal outer, plus some laboratory equipment with expensive high wattage bulbs. Any idea on the best way to test these?? Thanks
paulears
Sounds like you either had a very poor course, or something else is going wrong here. Microwaves and kettles are the things most of new testers on here complain about as being the things they did cover, and how they don't apply to the kind of kit we use. Your own company appear to be involved with nanotechnology and quantum dots - rather than theatre and events backstage equipment - which is what we all do here. I'm afraid we don't cover d0mest1c electrics in terms of testing, so we can't really help you. Is there a chance you joined the wrong kind of forum? You're more than welcome here, of course - but as you'll see from reading around the forum - our PAT problems revolve around testing lighting controls and other difficult to test pieces of kit? P I'm trying all possible locations to get help, including forums that aren't in the same field. I figured as kettles and microwaves are common things it might be universal. Thanks anyway, I'll find help somewhere else.
Brian
I'm not having a go at you but I am staggered. Let me get this straight. You or your employer paid for you to do a PAT course but they didn't cover the basics of testing? I'd ask for my money back; seriously I would. What course was it and who was the provider? Was it an examined course?
