Cousins of umbrellas

‘Lo

I saw a comedian recently who offered the opinion that you never own umbrellas you are just looking after them for a while. Well on the same thread I thought I should share my top 5 tech things that get misplaced. The following items get genuinely lost not stolen. So in no particular order and ‘get your hiking boots on as there may be a lot of rambling ahead! ©’

Gaffa, PVC and masking tape.

- Disappear all the time. PVC like a homing pigeon sometime returns home. Usually found in the pocket of your jeans once they have been washed.

Safety chains.

- What use people find for these I do not know but they disappear on a regular basis.

Screwdrivers and small tools

-How many times have you gone to the cupboard for a reasonable sized driver to find that it is stocked with

I) totally with the wrong type of driver – posi, slot or star.

ii) The tool cupboard has got the props from land of the giants and all screwdrivers are at least 1 foot long.

Staplers and staple guns

- These items are the closest relatives to umbrellas as far as I know. Staplers and guns reappear once you have bought a replacement, which takes a different size staple. Also to help matters the staple guns lose the markings telling you what make it is and which size staple to use.

China graph pencils

Rarely to hand when you want to mark gel up.

Whilst completing this list other items have sprung to mind-

Other peoples IEC leads

13a extension cables

5 > 15a or any other much needed adapter

Of course the biggest phenomonon is people disappearing at the creek of a truck door opening! It has happened many times before to us all I am sure, one minute you are standing in a throng of people absently chatting anout the latest in the war between the Daleks and the Flightcases, you hear the noise of a truck arriving and all of a sudden you are fighting off the tumbleweeds listening to a bell toll somewhere far away...

It also seems to get attracted to the bottom of your shoes, there are times when I have come home inches taller than when I left in the evening! :** laughs out loud **: B)

I know someone who named this affliction "Gigfoot." :** laughs out loud **:

But the main thing that go missing are Sharpies (nice marker pens for writing on the scribble strip)... I buy about 20 every two months and we always run out. Always. I keep finding them in unlikely places - likle marketing, or front-of-house. They say: "we found it" What? You found it in my desk drawer, you thieving little toerag! :** laughs out loud **: :P

Calms down...

Get yourself one of these:

from RS. Cat: 310-2086. Yes, they are a bit sad, and do add to the "Batman" effect, but they are very very useful.

  • 1 year later...

Batteries - you spend ages hoarding a whole buncha them only to realise that the type you actually need have gone to play with the fairies.

Random plastic attachments - of all shapes, sizes and colours. Should you manage to manage the screws, you'll find a little plastic that looks like it has an important job holding PCBs or trailing cables ...
