Any retired Jem Heavy Fog 1500s out there?

Hi All,

 

I have recently acquired a Jem Heavy Fog 1500 which is generally in very good condition, but sadly appears to have a dead compressor. I would like to think there is still life in the old girl yet, but for starters I will need another compressor, and Jem themselves have long since stopped supporting this product.

 

I would like to say that despite the age of the HV1500, Jem have been tremendously helpful, and in this day and age that kind of "extra mile" support is a rare commodity.

 

So...if anyone out there has a Heavy Fog 1500 (or just the compressor!!) gathering dust in a forgotten corner of the warehouse, I would be interested to make contact.

I have a fully working unit, and with lots of TLC still works well for its age, and I know them inside out, I brought the last unit off Jem back in the summer 09 for parts, but sorry to say I don't have a compressor,

 

the compressor should be a standard type for refrigeration, I think its 20kw single phase, and the gas is R22,

 

Are the compressor contactors clicking into action when the refrigeration is switched on the controller?

Yes, it all seems to function OK right up to the point when the compressor trys to spin, and then it trips the (20A) mains breaker it is attached to. When you hit the heavy fog button on the controller, the mag valve actuates, and then after the expected delay time, the main relay behind the compressor operates and trip!! No more power.

 

I have been in contact with Jem who have been tremendously helpful, but it does seem that there is no way around replacing the compressor. I'm hoping you meant a 2kW unit rather that 20kW, as the whole HV1500 is rated at 14A which only amounts to around 3.5kW!!

 

I'm going to see if I can source such a compressor, but I imagine they are not particularly cheap. Jem also say that the R22 gas is less available than it once was, so recharging the system might also be a challenge.

 

There happens to be an aircon service company in Potters Bar where I live, so I might try them for some ideas.

 

If I get the old girl cooling again, I'll be sure to let you know!!
