okianok
Hi can anyone sdvise whether its safe to run one side only of a power amp The reason I'm raising this is so I dont have to transport both speakers to rehearsals if it is safe should I not plug the mixer into both sides and put the volume of the non powered side to zero any advice appreciated. jamesperrett
Hi can anyone sdvise whether its safe to run one side only of a power amp There will be no problem with a properly designed solid state amp. Valve amps don't like running without a speaker attached and there have been the occasional solid state designs that won't be happy either but I doubt that there will be a problem with most modern amps. Cheers James.
Bobbsy
It might be worth mentioning the make and model of your amp. As James says, any properly designed solid state amp should be fine--but I HAVE encountered some economy ranges from certain high street electronics shops that don't fit the appellation "properly designed". I should hasten to add that I've never seen a problem with any vaguely decent amps--the offending units were things bought on the cheap when my son and his friends (as teenagers) were doing the part time DJ thing. Doug Siddons
Should be fine, with regards to plugging both outs of the mixer ie left and right into it then effectively muting one side be aware/make sure pans are towards the side with the speaker

paulears
If it's any help - I had a bigger one of these IMGs in a rack for many years and it ran just a single loudspeaker, never caused it any bother at all.
dbuckley
If in doubt just purchase a 15 ohm 10W resistor and put it across the unused speaker terminals. CHeck the volume is at zero to avoid premature failure of the resistor.
