petertilling
Hello all, I was wondering if anyone knows a good place to buy weights and braces other than Flints? More importantly, does anyone know anywhere cheaper! I am after four braces and eight weights - don't mind second hand. Thanks, Peter peter@funkproductions.co.uk
Seano
Hall Stage perhaps?
boatman
We bought ten of each last year and Flints was by far the cheapest. I doubt you'll do better unless there some second-hand on eBay.
J Pearce
Might be worth ringing Flints and asking if they have any seconds or ex-hire stock. If you can live with fixed length braces they needn't be too expensive to make yourself.
WiLL
I searched around for cheaper sources and came to the conclusion that actually, most people buy from Halls or Flint's and then sell them on with their own mark-up added on top. If you want new, then be prepared to pay. Although bear in mind the average life of a stage brace is about 20 years, and a weight must last a good 100 it's money well spent in the long run. Richard the chandler
Given that this is my last day of babysitting the hires dept at Flints as well as my normal job in the company I can offer a view on second hand braces. Each one of our braces are hand made from Tulipwood by a small chap called Gary in our onsite workshop with the intention of lasting a very long time. With our hires stock we try to keep them in good nick by giving them a very light sand and a rub of wax on the two running surfaces. Because of this we don't often need to replace them unless they've been snapped by driving over them. (trust me somebody once did this!) But it also means that if it needs replacing its fit only for the bin and not for selling on. You can also buy the spare cowhorns and feet for them if needs be. And yes many companies do buy and then sell on. But often this is people who are doing installs or refits and their client requests a complete package of staging and equipment.
