49er Fan
can anybody recommend a cheap or free piece of software that I can use during our school show to run out sound cues with
Dj Dunc
If you are using a mac try QLab. Its free for the basic stereo version, and can be downloaded from http://figure53.com/qlab/ If you are using a PC try Multiplay. Its also free and written by our very own David Duffy. http://www.audiovisualdevices.com.au/softw...y/multiplay.php hth Dunc

Steve1812
Ive been using Show Cue from sunny Australia - the standard level does just about everything that a school would need - I bought it for mine. http://www.showcuesystems.com/ It only works for Windows which is a nuisance - seems there are to few Mac users to warrent making it Mac friendly - wrote to the developer - he always replies to mails. the kid
+1 for Qlab, almost every show that comes to me has it, works every time. +1 also fro Show Cue Systems, work just got me that. I have pro (or what ever the one below full version is) I opened it up and I worked it right away, interesting little things I still have to work out but so far so good. Bobbsy
And from me a +1 for Multiplay. You'll never get better support than being able to talk in the Blue Room to the guy who actually wrote the software from scratch! If you don't have a lot of cues and want something really simple and very stable, try SOUND PLANT. This doesn't give you a "cue list". Instead, you just programme each of your sounds to a different key on your computer keyboard and then press "D" for "Dog Barking" or "2" for "Music Cue 2" or however you programme it. Withing the programme you have options for looping and whether the next key press overlaps the last or cuts it off--with practice it's quite a powerful package. However, if you want a stack of cues and a "Go" button, then back to Multiplay. Bob
David Duffy
Ive been using Show Cue from sunny Australia - the standard level does just about everything that a school would need - I bought it for mine. I didn't realise at first, but the author of Show Cue Systems is only 10 minutes from my place. Who would have thought two independent cue software guys would be that close geographically! :** laughs out loud **:

kitlane
Don't forget you can buy a licence for QLab on a daily rate. $3 per day for most versions if you need more than the free version but only for a few days.
J Pearce
We're doing well with Multiplay at work. I've even got some of the kids to program it successfully, including automatic and manual cuts and fades. Does the job perfectly. The only thing I'd like is support for some more formats, seeing as I get anything and everything format wise. I do now have some conversion software, but native support is always quicker and simpler.

J Pearce
I don't know what formats I've had trouble with, I'll check on monday if I get a chance. I think m4a's (DRM free iTunes files mainly) are amongst the problematic formats, though I could be wrong. We have the K-Lite codec pack installed which means the codecs for almost anything are on the machine.
torch1972
+1 for Qlab version 2. If you have access to a mac, I would choose qlab over any PC based software every time.
