Gerry
HiJust bought a used Realistic PZM microphone.Tried connecting it to a powered amp/ speaker.Nothing. I am that the microphone does work.I want to use it for a backstage monitor system.Do I need a microphone preamp as I believe the output is very low.CheersGerry
Sound Man
The output of this mic will be at microphone level so you need to make sure that it is plugged into the mic input on the powered speaker. Is the AA battery ok? David
Bobbsy
If the powered speaker is expecting line level, absolutely yes on the pre-amp. The mic puts out mic level which is around 60dB or so less than a line level input is expecting. Silly question but, as it's a condenser mic, have you inserted the necessary 1.5V battery? Even with this it's still mic level...but without power there's no output at all. Bob
timtheenchanteruk
which realistic mic is it, can you post a pic. some used a button cell in the bottom, some a AA batter inline, and I beleive at one point IIRC they sold some that required phantom, very similar to the PCC160
Gerry
I fitted a new 1.5V battery, and switched it on :D Plugged into the microphone input.I'll have another go when I'm next at the theatre.CheersGerry A concurrent post has been automatically merged from this point on. OOPS :** laughs out loud **: ;)  There are 3 wires, red, blue and screen.I assumed that the screen would go to the sleeve on a mono jack and red or blue or both to the tip.By not connecting the screen and using the red and blue wires it now works. All I can say is that I'm not a sound person. You can take either meaning of the word sound.CheersGerry
pisquee
You were right the first time with thinking that the screen should go to the sleeve of the jack, but along with the blue. The red wire should then be connected to the tip. If using a stereo/balanced jack, then the screen will go to the sleeve again, blue to the ring, and red again to the tip.For an XLR, sleeve to Pin 1, Red to 2, and Blue to 3.
