labby
hiwe have a leapfrog 96 in a small theatre, with mainly starlite LEDs plus 2 movers, and some parcans through a dimmer. all works well on submasters and memories. we recently tried to program in the fixtures to use some of the effects, but ran into problems.my question. can I install fixtures in one universe without messing up the others if something goes wrong? I want to try again but we have a lot of shows coming up and dont want to mess the desk up. any help would be appreciated
stillwave
hiwe have a leapfrog 96 in a small theatre, with mainly starlite LEDs plus 2 movers, and some parcans through a dimmer...can I install fixtures in one universe without messing up the others if something goes wrong? you should be able to, it depends on how many leds & how many DMX channels the movers take up. without wanting to tell you how to suck eggs... the amount of channels available to you in one universe is 512 if you add up all the channels your existing kit uses that will tell you how many channels you have left, try not to leave gaps in between the channels you select for fixtures IE a led par that takes 5 channels would mean 1st one DMX channel 1, 2nd one on DMX channel 6 etc. although you mention you have generics through a dimmer, it usual to have generics in the low numbers (for example 1 to 50) then the movers & leds after that. as for messing up you existing kit, it shouldn't do as long as you make sure that you DMX channels on the fixtures don't overlap, the only thing is that the actual extra device (or any of the DMX kit) could cause errors in the DMX stream, you could add a splitter/buffer to reduce this risk, but it depends on how much kit you have & the exact configuration. if this is for touring kit that comes into the building, it may well be worth adding them on the second universe as it saves the tourers messing with the addressing of their fixtures if they use the same channels as some of the house kit. in this instance on the desk your stuff would have an A (for the A universe) & you would patch their fixtures to a B number ie B1 Regards, Ben Wainwright
LXbydesign
yes, just have a look at the patch set-up page on the screen and that will tell you whats patched up and where. You will instantly see what values are free to use. However, if your in some doubt and dont want to mess up the desk, firstly, pop in a USB key and do a full save of show- covers you if something goes wrong! As above, for incoming touring companies and / or just for you to have a try out, use the 2nd output. it just makes life easier and saves you having to make any changes to your excisting patch.
