Hi guys,

Ive got a mackie SRM450 amp module in for repair and I dont know whats wrong with it.

Ive plugged the power in and it powers up ok. signal light flashes when I put signal into it.

but when I turn up the volume, I get a very low output when gain on the mixer and gain on the amp is maxed out.

can anybody point me in the right direction?

Ive tried ringing LoudTech, but my call keeps getting binned as soon as someone answers.

All help appreciated.

Many thanks,

Nigel

Hi Nigel

A OT, but I heard that Mackie are stopping all spares for the Mk1 450's, so any future repairs may be very differcult indeed.

A mate needed a power supply for one, normanly £40 item, but the only unit that could be found was in Belguim through the service network and it was alot more than £40, hense the above rumour.

Might be linked to your un-answered phone calls?

Sorry to be a profit of doom.

I'm the owner of a sick SRM350 at the minute - similair fault. Mine had very low output, but when wiggling the gain pot, the level shoe back up again. I managed to get a few spare pots from the service centre in belgium (very helpful and the parts arrived quite quickly). Following replacement (multilayer board - quite tricky!) the fault still remains. I can only assume there's a crack on the little input pcb that the XLR's and gain pots are attached to.

I tried to remove the pot completely and replace it with a pair of fixed value resistors (it seemed that the movement of the gain pot was causing the board to be intermittent - as if moving it was disturbing the crack in the board) and for a while all was ok, but now it's dead again. Only thing I can think of is to replace that input board.

If you find a part for it, I'd be interested in knowing - I've tried and failed. The alternative I guess is to sit and work out the pinout for the ribbon cable that connects it to the main board. I guess the input board has the mic pre and very little else on it, with the line level output going via the ribbon cable to the main board. It may be possible to connect an XLR directly to this cable, loosing the mic pre facility but at least providing a line input.

Hmm, that seems odd, they were selling the Mark 1's up until only 2 years ago? :** laughs out loud **:

Just take a sharpened small screwdriver and scrape the coating off of the circuit traces until you find the crack, then bridge the crack with solder (and, if needed, a small piece of wire).
