Sound Install

I'm wanting to install some small speakers into three different rooms. One, a bar which is 1190x1020cm and 200cm high. Two, first floor of a Resteraunt which consists of one main room of 1035x1670cm and 200cm high, a side room of 400x885 and 200cm high, and a Buffet area of 850x650 and 200cm high. Three, second floor of the resteraunt which is one room of 1400x590 and 200cm high.

Can someone give me some advice on what to install for a really cheap budget! I'll require that the system can be controlled in one place, but can also be localised. So I can plug in a sound desk in all three floors. The system will mainly be used for background music and voice overs, but it will need to be use for live music on the odd occation. So I'll need enough coverage and quility to produce live vox at a good level.

Could do with a list of decent cheap Kit!

Thanks to anyone that can help me out.

Putting a system that's good enough for live music into three rooms is not going to be cheap, and may not be that suitable for background in a restaurant. Linking them together, though possible, may make it difficult for the non technical staff to operate. How much money do you have available?

I would be tempted to install one 100V line system to cover all three rooms background stuff (with volume control in each room) and have a separate PA system that could be set up when needed for bigger events.

I recently put in a BGM system over three rooms for under £300 parts, and the rooms you have there are not much bigger*. Doing something like that will then, I hope, will leave you enough cash left to get something suitable for live music, which you can set up when needed.

*E2A re-read you post & room 2 is pretty big - add another hundred pounds or so

I also spotted the ceiling height. That could cause issues with placement.

Tall people will be hitting there head anyway if it is 2m. Anything more than a few inches of pa hanging out the ceiling and 'normal' height people are going to walk into things.

Never mind PA hanging out of the ceilings? How are you going to fix 6'6" doors, complete with frames anywhere?

I presume this is an olde worlde cottage style venue where everyone over 6' will need to duck when passing from room to room!??

I'd say these are very small rooms generally, largest is only 10x16m, you'd be hard pressed to get a live band and much audience in there, never mind speakers, and anyway would you need them for much - well you would if there was a (drum) kit - be hard to compete against that sensibly in such a small room.

Sorry to be so negative but the plan confuses me?

Looks like a nice building

Now I've seen photos & know your budget, I more sure that you should install one system for background / announcements & use a portable system for bands if needed. However, you'll not get both on that budget.

My example above was a simple ceiling speaker job, with cables run above a false ceiling. You'll want better looking speakers, wall mount, probably more of them & the cable runs will be difficult. You could easily spend all your budget (and more), just for background stuff.

Anything suitable for bands is going to look big & out of place when not being used. Also, £1000 may just about get you one reasonable vocal PA system, but not three.

Boasting a "215 seat, air conditioned auditorium" but no pictures of it? ;)

It looks to me (if the venue posted is correct) that they have live acts in the auditorium anyway.

As for live bands in the dining room/bar area, the sound would be atrocious!

Bit of a sweeping statement? Surely it depends on a number of factors like style of music, kit used and skill of the engineer. If we are going to speculate about the modus operandi of the venue, perhaps they put the loud acts in the theatre, and the singer songwriter / balladeers in the low ceilinged spaces where sheer volume isn't an important factor. I've heard good sound in plenty of low-ceilinged venues.

Oh and having looked at the link in Mark's post, I can confirm that there is indeed a very nice auditorium seating about 200, which is much higher than 8ft. I did some work experience there as a student in 1983, on a production of Educating Rita starring Patricia Brake, who played Fletcher's daughter in Porridge. Don't think it was air conditioned in those days though.
