Tothedisco
Hi, I have a small MG30DFX, marshall amp that I use as a practice amp and use at small gigs.long story short, recently it's been very quiet, about a third of the original volume when cranked up full, with a guitar plugged in, and the only way to return to full volume is strum very hard on the guitar. This however results in a distorted, crackly sound, and almost sounds like it has an hard limiting noise gate on it, as after the initial strum, it returns to the original very quiet volume. I've tested with multiple guitars, jacks, and tested the speaker connections. If theres any ideas to return it to a useful amp, I would be most grateful as it looks like I'm going to have to take it as a backup on tour in a few weeks. KevinE
Im afraid it could be anything! Being a combo they can easily develop bad joints at any point...and modern pcb-based Marshalls are no exception! You might be able to trace the fault by connecting it to a permanent signal source and carefully probing with an insulated tool to see if you can make the fault come and go. Wilflet
does it come and go when you change settings? ie both channels, with &without footswitch, with & without FDD button in? might help narrowing it down
Russ83
Possibly the Fx chip thats gone. One of our Kustom amps had the same symptoms but luckily those amps have a bypass switch for the effects. The amp got sent back to the supplier for repair.
