melkin
Hey guys. I have a strand 510 I as a back up to my 520i and all of a sudden it has stopped booting up. It has been fine for years and years yet now when I turn it on when I come in, the lights flash on the display as if its starting to startup then after about 2 seconds it goes off and looks dead completely - no lights, nothing on the monitor etc, yet strangley the 510 still needs to be on for my 520 to work even though the 510 is not actually on cuz it wont boot (if that makes sense)..... I've tried changing power leads and every other lead etc and checked power supplies etc too but its still the same. Anybody got any ideas or experienced anything similar as I'm in the middle of a panto run and dont have a backup currently which just makes me nervous obviously!!!!! Cheers in advance Mark
Kazeja
Sounds like the Bios has become corrupted so that it has defaulted to softstart on. Unfortunatly, the 510 (unlike 520i) does not have an external softstart so it needs to be opened up and have the appropriate pins on the motherboard momentarilly shorted. Once up and running it can then be set to ignore the softstart on powerup. K
limelight
Hi Mark, My first port of call would be the PRAM battery on the logic board of the 510. If you open it up and look on the main board, you should find a fairly large button cell battery. If this has died, then the 510 will not boot. Replace the battery (Sorry, can't remember the type offhand but it is a common one that even Boots or you local watch battery shop will stock) close up the 510 and try booting again. If this doesn't work, check all the chips and connectors are seated correctly, and if that doesn't help I think you might need to send it off for repair. Hope it's just the battery! Graham
themadhippy
Totally of the wall, but could this be linked to the problem you had getting the 520 to boot?
melkin
thanks very much guys, I will try the battery first as that seems the most simple thing to change first and take it from there. As for the 520i boot up problems, I thought it might have been linked at first but I totally unplugged the 510i and tried to start it independantly and it still wont boot. As for the 520i, once I had ran the 220 clean up it has been absolutely fine (touching wood as I say this!) and booted up first time every day Thanks again guys and I'll let u know how I get on Thanks again Mark
