Boltonguy
Im not very electrical minded so please can I ask for your help. I have 750w ART7 722 tops and 1000w ART7 905 subs. The maxmimum wattage shown on the power unit on the back of these is 1100w each at 230V I want to power the sub with a 10amp plug and then power link the tops from the sub. Can 1 sub and 1 top be powered from a 10amp plug? I am assuming that 1100w + 1100w = 2200w. 2200w / 230v = 9.53amps. Have I got the figures right or is it 750w + 1000w = 1750w / 240v = 7.29amps? Hopefully I am making some sense All help appreciated A concurrent post has been automatically merged from this point on. sorry. I mean I want to power 1 sub and 1 top from a 10 amp plug
JimWebber
230 Volts or 240 Volts will very much depend on where you are! I will lay good money that it is 240 V though! Looking at those figures, yes, a 10A supply will be more then adequate. By nature of amplifiers, that 1100 Watts will be a peak, very short term loading, and the "Real" electrical load will probably be considerably less! I will let one of the noise boys on here give a more accurate answer. But your maths is pretty good none the less, and 10A should be fine! MarkPAman
In real life, you will not actually draw anywhere near that power. I have measured my similar sized system drawing slightly under 4 amps when running loud. When I have to, I have run the FOH system, 6 monitors & the backline combos all from the same 13A plug with no problems. Make sure you have a fuse (or trip) not bigger than 10A just to be safe. KevinE
Any issue is more likely to involve the switch-on inrush rather than the power when you're up and running. It might stress the fuse over time and fail at an inopportune moment. I'd switch each speaker's power switch on individually if I were you just to be safe, though either way its only a slight risk. Boltonguy
Many thanks for your responses. Yes I do switch them on individually and let each one activate before I switch in the next one.
TonyMitchell
+1 what Mark said. You'll be surprised how little average current draw your sound system has, even when playing loud.(Assuming you're playing/reinforcing "normal" music)
cpizey
I've had similar concerns about running all of our PA from a 13amp socket. Getting one of these allayed my fears:http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?moduleno=38343
