pike98
Hi all, My wife who has been using minidisc for a number of years in all her live shows is thinking of moving from minidisc to laptop, but is usure on which software / soundcard would be best? Can anybody help? Cheers
Malcolm Gordon
Many on this forum, including myself, favour SCS, formerly known as Sound Cue System, now Show Cue Systems. Does she control the MiniDisc herself? It may help people to recommend a sound card if they know what sort of sound system the MD player is presently driving and whether she already has the laptop. By the way, welcome to the Blue Room!
pike98
Thanks for the reply, she has a Sony Vaio laptop.
Malcolm Gordon
And the rest of the sound kit? Presumably the Vaio has USB 2.0. Does it also have I.LINK (FireWire)? It helps to know for the soundcard options.
pike98
Yeah its a fairly new Vaio with USB 2 and firewire. Its going to run a Dynacord powermate 1000 with RCF ART 300 tops with custom made RCF bass bins. She just needs some simple software to be able to stack up her play list and maybe start the tracks with a foot switch?! Ive checked out SCS and it looks good, is it possible to control DMX lights using the same software?! Cheers Matt
boswell
is it possible to control DMX lights using the same software?! yes, if you get the Pro plus version
Malcolm Gordon
is it possible to control DMX lights using the same software?! yes, if you get the Pro plus versionActually no. At the moment SCS only supports DMX messages IN, via the ENTTEC DMX USB PRO, i.e. the lighting board cues SCS. SCS can receive and send MIDI messages. boswell
Sorry, my mistake, I don't use DMX and had just noticed in the SCS setup that you need the plus for DMX.but I can confirm that the Midi side works fine, in & out.
chatterbox
Hi all, My wife who has been using minidisc for a number of years in all her live shows is thinking of moving from minidisc to laptop, but is usure on which software / soundcard would be best? Can anybody help? Cheers We use SCS for all our live shows - It is great software - will output midi, audio, run projection etc etc, and Mike the writer will always look at updating things if you ask him..... The guy we work with with our shows has started a company and website to help people set up with this software - link is: http://www.soundachievements.com/SA_Web-Si..._article_1.html
