Nexo PS8 vs Meyer UPJ vs Turbosound NuQ

Hi,

I am not a pro sound guy but am really interested in pro audio and wanted to put up speakers in my bar mainly for music playback/DJ. I would not expect more than 20-30 people there. The room is quite small about 23 x 23 feet. The acoustics are not exactly nice as all the walls are bone dry.

I am very confused as to which setup to install and I have the following 3/4 options to choose from

- Nexo ps8 + ls 400 with camco Dpower4 amps

- Meyer UPJ with Meyer UMS1P (expensive though)

- D&B E3 are out of my budget range

- Turbosound Nuq 8

- Tannoy V8 with a powered subwoofer.

- Get powered studio monitors maybe 4 of them mackies / genelec / any other

I have the powered Mackie srm 450's but cannot stand the sound for some reason. its ok for outdoors but not for this application.

The cheapest option for me besides the tannoys and studio monitors is the Nexo's.

I would love to get your advice / opinions. Usually a smaller dispersion pattern and a warmer sound would help because of the confined space.

Thanks.

I'll let people with more experience comment on what might be best for your venue but you say the E3's are out of your budget?

Have you tried looking for ex hire gear?

Dobson Sound have some E3's up for sale for £525 each. A bit cheaper than the PS8's

Linky.

Personally, I would say the UPJ is an excellent box, but it is slightly bigger than the others you have listed, being a 10" main driver. Have you looked at the UPJunior, which is an 8" box like most of the others and is a bit cheaper than the UPJ? I don't quite see how you have listed the UPJ as an option yet state the E3 is out of your price range, as the Meyer box would be more pricey. The E3 is also a much smaller box, more comparable to a UPM than a UPJ.

I've never really liked the dual-concentric drivers in the Tannoys and have historically found the HF burns out rather easily, although it is neither difficult or expensive to repair.

I also dislike the sound of the Mackies

I'm a Nexo man myself, but they are very much at the premium end of the range. Do you really need such a system in a small bar?

What about looking at Martin kit - they do some smaller speakers, and I don't think I've come across anything by Martin that doesn't sound good.

I apologise, I meant the UPJunior and not the UPJ  sorry about the confusion.

@ DAVE: I have heard the smaller martin AQ6 which my brother has but I didn't like them too much for some reason. I like a really clean sound and I dont know if it was just the room in which they were located. The tannoys and studio monitors were included precisely because its a small room and the nexo's would be a bit more expensive. What I would pay for the aq6 would be just a little less than the nexo's so id rather go for those.

@ tolley1466: I live in India so it would be a bit difficult to buy used speakers here

I have ordered the Tannoy v8 passive and am probably going to power them with an amp which has a highpass filter so I dont need to buy an extra crossover. I wanted any recommendations on subwoofers that would go well. The tannoy 10" VS10BP is an option. I would appreciate any other recommendations thanks.
