jonwhittaker
Hi Guys - after a little help with a smoke machine we have. We have a JEM ZR12-AL smoke machine, unit powers up fine, controller works fine, and heater heats up. However we're getting no output at all from the machine, have replaced the pump and it is still not working, the pump is making no noise. Any ideas? thanks in advance. KevinE
controller works fineSo you've tested the controller on another machine then to eliminate it? This is the first thing of course. First, check you've got power to the pump. You can substitute a 25W pigmy lamp in a holder where the pump should go, don't just test for voltage with a digital meter, it may be misleading. If power's ok, it may be the heater block scaled up. When pumping against a closed pipe, these pumps (Ulka type used in the Jem) will go silent, maybe just making a slight hum in a quiet room. Disconnect the pump from the heater and try again..but expect it to go everywhere if the pump is pumping. Make sure you've put the new pump in the right way, polarity wise. jonwhittaker
Thanks very much for your reply. The polarity of the pump was in fact the problem. The pump works fine. However the link between the pump and the heater (thin copper tube) seems to be a problem... fluid is spurting out the join between the pump and the start of the copper tube. I need a solution to seal this if anyone has any ideas!
KevinE
It should be a compression joint with an olive, check the pipe is pushed all the way in until the olive is seated properly. If necessary, you can wind a little ptfe tape around the olive and try that. Make sure you didnt fracture the tube when you changed the pump, there may be a hairline crack somewhere.
