Dave lee
Hi All We have an event coming up at Claridges in London and I need to know if they have a loading bay? One that is large enough for us to park a long wheelbase Sprinter! I have been told by the venue there is an area by their service lift for us to unload but they were very vague about how long we could leave our van there. I have come across this before in London where the loading bay is in fact a small lift and the only place to park is on double yellows. If you have worked this venue and can offer us any advice, it would be much appreciated. Also, assuming there will be no place to leave the van during the event do you know any suitable car parks close to the venue? Thanks in advance. AndyJones
I think you load in through the front, up a small set of steps inside if memory serves me correct. Single yellows outside?
Dave
Claridges... I remember one of my clients got a parking ticket there!! A loading bay or service area is news to me. I think there are meters nearby, but you probably won't fit an LWB Sprinter in and the time you can stay is limited. I also remember that to load you park outside on a single yellow. There are plenty of car parks around but most are underground and may not have the height for a van. You could try contacting Westminster Council to try to arrange a parking dispensation. If you are videoing, that may get a more helpful response. They're used to film shoots and OBs needing to park vehicles, but if you tell them you're delivering they'll expect you to shift the van afterwards. back_ache
When you do go there could you keep some technical notes (and notes on the parking!) and add it to the blank wiki artical http://www.blue-room.org.uk/wiki/Claridges
Russ247
Have a look at Google "Street Maps" for Brooke Street & you'll see the entrance for the Ballroom & main hotel. Single yellow I'm afraid. I don't remember there being a loading bay either though there are lots of meters (appreciate it's a LWB Sprinter but has been done!). Calder
When I used to do jobs in London, you were able to get a "Tradesman ticket" if I remember rightly they were about £20.00 a day. However they allowed you to park in resident bays and on meters all day without moving. You used to be able to buy them at certain council underground car parks. jimbo7744
Hi Dave, It would be helpful to know what room at Claridges you will be working in as if your loading in early morning, or late at night then they are happy to let you use the front entrance to the Ballroom on Brook Street (revolving doors that fold flat and 4 or 5 steps then through a rotunda and into the ballroom) or there is a delivery entrance on Brook's Mews but involves a lift/stairs and corridors, so not to useful if you have large set pieces. If your not working in the Ballroom and it's occupied then the only option you have is the delivery entrance. If you call and ask to speak to the Conference and Banqueting manager +44 (0)20 7107 8896 to discuss access, I'm sure you will be able to work something out. No loading bay, Single and Double Yellow lines out the front, and the same plus Resident's parking bays out the back. Sorry but can't recommend parking for a LWB Sprinter type vehicle. Pete McCrea
I have a sneaking suspicion that the job is a 16:30 load in to the Drawing Room and French Salon, with the out being around 21:00.

David Lee
You should always bank on getting a ticket in London, great fun eh?
tokm
there are lots of meters (appreciate it's a LWB Sprinter but has been done!).IIRC, the rule is the tyres have to be inside the lines. So even if your ar$e and nose are over the lines, if your tyres are inside the lines you'll not get a ticket/have a good excuse for appealing. Or you could just not pay/ignore the ticket along with any other correspondence and probably get away with it like a lot of people do get in a lot of trouble .
