Again down to the usual test route here,

Are you using a terminator?

If two of them are doing it and two are not it's a 50/50 chance of being a motor.

Strip down the two dodgy ones and inspect them, then have the good heads, start adding in the dodgy ones alternatley incase the 3rd one is gubbed and the 4th one is just copying it.

I will try that thanks, if it is the motor do you know how much and where to get them in a hurry

there is many things it could be. 1) stepper motor 2) driver IC 3) loom fault 4) protective resistors on main board and many other things. First thing I would do personally is to swap the stepper from a good head over to one of the faulty heads. if it works then its the stepper. If not then swap the driver IC of the control board and see if that sorts it. If not then meter out the cable from the control board to the stepper. If all the above fails then ring martin and get them to talk you through the protective resistor on the control board(very unlike to be this)

I had a mac 250 where the fan had stopped, and the focus mechanism melted.

open up the head and have a look and check the fan operation. the focus is a stepper motor conected directly to a threaded brass bar.. The lens assembly slides up and down on two rails.

Sounds a bit odd that all 4 aren't working, are you trying to focus them via a console or manually through the menu?

If your doing it from a desk, it may be the desk at fault therefore check each of the macs individualy and try it through the menu's.

I have 8 MX10s which are a MAC250 Krypton in the form of a moving mirror and occasionally one or two of them had sticky focus worm drives. Martin advised a small touch with their white gear grease which helped. I also had a new Robe700 spot which had a focus error from new. This also turned out to be a dry slide shaft which needed a few spots of grease.

Don't tell Martin, I used their grease on a Robe!

****But don't over do the grease****
