FOH announcement "hot cue system"

Recommended Posts

There are units out there, however they are designed for other industries - Voice alarms for example.

My suggestion would be get an old computer, purchase a small touch screen monitor (£180) sit it at the prompt desk and create files that can be loaded up on WMP.

Maybe not 100% reliable, but it's cheap and easy!

If you are talking about actually investing in something speak to Baldwin Boxall

I have built units to do such a thing before, and I'd be more than happy to help again, the more basic option will only cost a couple hundred to do and it works perfectly fine. Had it in my venue for the past 3 years, one in another venue and never had a problem.

There's a company called ID-AL who produce similar devices but playing off compact flash/SD cards. The back panel has a terminal strip, and to play particular tracks, you just short a particular terminal to common.

I used their FlashMPX and another of their units (the name of which escapes me!) last year when I was working in a theme park. Had absolutely no problems with them - all the "programming" is carried out by changing the file and directory names on the flash card. If you're clever with short silent wav files as well, there's an option that closes a relay in the unit if you choose - so it could in theory be set up to also ring the bar bells if you so desired.

Also means that it's simple enough to have a couple of flash cards or USB keys around that you can tailor for different times/shows.

E2A: Links to their products here and here.

(I'm not associated in any way with ID-AL - just liked the boxes from them I used!)
