FD Dimmers

Hi all,

 

I have picked up 3 x 12 way FD dimmers and want to put a small rack together. (36 is enough for what I need)

 

They are all fitted with camloc

 

I need to fit DMX cables and see, of course, that they are D connectors.

 

I have a Zero 88 Demux unit spare so was going to use that to control them.

They are fitted with socapec x 2 on the back

 

Can any one advise me on this adventure? I am looking for:

 

What/How to connect the DMX and if there are pre-made cables

 

What would a distro box cost to power them up

 

What else am I not thinking about?

Your Zero 88 Demux do have 8-pin DIN connectors right ? So what you could do is :

 

• Make 3x control cords going in a Y, splitting the first 6 channels to one 8-pin DIN and the next 6 to another that goes to one D-type connector (15-pin if I remember correct) into your dimmers.
  

• Hardwire the Demux to 3 x 15 pin D-type connectors.
  

• Or get a 2nd hand Demux made for the FD racks. After a quick search I found that Usedlighting got 6 of them for 200£ (you will still need 3x cables to hook your dimmers up ofc) http://www.usedlighting.co.uk/control/sign...-avo-configured.
  

 

 

For a distro you could get a new one from GSL power. http://www.gslpower.com/any_dimmers/ , but I am not sure about the price or you could  try to give the used-gear-dealers a call to see if they got one. If you wanna build one yourself you are probably looking at 300-600£ in parts. 

 

You may also wanna consider changing out the old fuse-holders with MCB`s ? If you wanna keep them the way they are make sure you get and bring spare fuses with them.

 

Do you plan to connect your lights directly do the dimmers on the socas or are you gonna add a patch ?
