Headlong
Hi Guys, does anyone have a PDF of the DIP settings for Abstract Colourfloods that they could point me too please? I've tried the Abstract site but there's limited reference to the older products and random settings are getting on the g/fs nerves! Thanks in advance Rik
Aaron-Hill07
What are you trying to do with them Rik? You might not need a DIP diagram to sort your problem! Let us know!
Headlong
Trying to run them using DMX - I've tried the usual "all to off and select DMX channel" but no-go...I'm hoping that there's a voodoo trick to enable/set the DMX channel Rik
david.elsbury
Tried first switch on (for address 1) and last switch on (to try and select DMX mode enabled)? Pass if it works on this specific product but it's often the way they work...

The units are 2nd hand and I'm just hoping that it's my lack of knowledge of the DIP settings...not duff DMX circuits
Aaron-Hill07
What DMX Adresses do you need them set on? It works on binary so I'll work it out if you let me know what channel you need each light to start on Also, what controller are you using with the lights? I've tested the software DMX controller using a 4 channel LED panel with no problems. I managed to find an HTML/PDF conversion on the 'Net which seems to indicate that just setting DIP 1 and all others off should give me a 2 channel DMX device operating on channels 1 & 2 but no joy. Aaron-Hill07
Oops, didn't read the original topic properly about the actual lights.. Check the cables, check if everything is the same polarity.. I.e pin 1-pin 1, pin 2-pin 2 etc.. Some of the older lighting from specific manufacturers wire things differently for some odd reason which would mean you won't get any signal! Headlong
I'm using the same cable as that which works fine with the Enttec soft DMX controller and the ACME 4 channel LED panel. On inspection the manual says that pin 2 should be hot - is this usual in DMX or is a quirk of Abstract units? Rik
Aaron-Hill07
Ok, DMX should always be wired with Pin 1: GroundPin 2: Hot (+)Pin 3: Cold (-) So it should be fine, in which case I can't think of the problem apart from the unit's not actually working themselves on DMX. Do they work Sound - Light without DMX? If they're second hand units they may have never been used with DMX therefore never reported as faulty. Headlong
Hi Aaron, thanks for the heads up re DMX polarity with different units - the ACME/Enttec Pro USB-DMX docs specify pin 3 hot, the Abstract docs pin 2 hot hence the problem! I'll be knocking up a couple of adaptor cables and testing everything tomorrow. They definitely work ok in sound - light with no DMX cables/all DIP switches off. Thanks again. Aaron-Hill07
Rik, No problem, sometimes manufacturers like to do that for some unknown reason. Try adaptors and see what happens, if my thinking is correct it should all work! HTH,Aaron
themadhippy
Ok, DMX should always be wired with Pin 1: GroundPin 2: Hot (+)Pin 3: Cold (-)since when? 2 hot (+) 3 not (-) is audio,2 not 3 hot is DMXHeadlong a couple of things thats caught me out in on other units in the past include dip switches being put in upside down, having to power off then on when switching from stand alone to DMX control, there was anoher strange one were instead of 1 to 512 it went 0 to 511. if all else fails ive a 4lb club hammer for hire
Headlong
A x-over cable did the trick. Another strange one is that there's a 2 channel offset (at least on the 2 units tested so far) i.e. unit set to DMX 1 but operates on DMX 3, 2 on 4 etc. Weird but I can live with it!
