jackcornish
Hello, I have specced up a Dance studio with some Martin AQ series speaker....A friend suggests I should try out the OHM BR series speakers...does any one have any experience of these? Any good? have a 16x8m space and opting for 4x8" speakers and a sub concealed in the wall (flush fitted). I've looked at RCF and the other contenders but really don't know much about OHM, I see them at PLASA but never really come across their products on line. Cheers Jack
Simon Lewis
Jack, Knutsford is some distance away from you, but if you can go there for a demo. I would put OHM in the category of "much better than the MI grade speakers" but "not in the very top league of pro speakers". I would certainly consider them for this application. I have installed plenty of the older MR series, and have some BR15s and BR218s in my small hire stock. Simon
J Pearce
I have 4 MR10s at work. They make noise, I wouldn't say they've impressed me, but on the other hand I wouldn't say I'm itching to replace them. They're good clear boxes, lacking bass for 10s but you've got a sub so that won't worry you. I find them a little honky in the 300Hz area if pushed hard. I've used Simons BRs and found them a good solid rig, (very solid, and heavy!!). Slightly smoother and less honky than the MRs at work. I'd agree with Simon that they're well above the chinese plastic stuff, and clearly above the stuff made for pub bands; but they're not D&B/Meyer/EAW etc.
ChrisBogg
Hi Jack For play back the Ohm stuff is very good. Like J Pearce says, a little lacking in low end from there full range boxes (all of them across the range) but with a good sub (try the BR15 or 18B or the great "Moon sub") you cant go wrong. I have installed a lot of these in dance studios and they work very well. You can get a good processor cheeper than the Ohm ones or we have used the Crown XTI amps to good effect in dance studios etc. Ohm are friendly and helpful and parts are not a problem. PM me for more details should you have any questions. Chris
KevinE
The Ohm BR range of speakers are my all-time favourite club speaker, up there with the Martin F series (or better) for build quality and sound if you want a bar or club installation. They've had a few re-hashes over the years and the latest versions look even classier than ever. The MRs I consider a mobile DJ or musician product though I'm open to other suggestions for them! I agree, do go and have a listen in their Demo room, they're not far off the M6 Knutsford turning. They're also flexible in their pricing if you like the Sunday Market approach ;-) and they readily directly supply spares and drawings as necessary, very accomodating people. http://www.ohmchina.com/images/ohm_bm_br12_m.jpg (pic shows the previos generation of BRs, later ones have wraparound grilles) PS I just noticed you're in Bromley(?) so a bit far to go and you're not actually running a nightclub! mervaka
Chris' description sums up my thoughts on Ohm. I own a TRS system. It sounds bloody lovely, but the HF boxes roll off very fast at low frequencies. not a problem when with subs.

TomHoward
One comment on the BR series - are the speakons on the back paralleled? I used some on a gig once, and the speakon connectors are marked 'Input' and 'Link' - assuming they were paralleled as usual I ignored the markings, and they didn't power up until I traced the problem and swapped them over. I was never sure if it was a connector wasn't mating properly, or if there was something unusual going on inside.
Simon Lewis
One comment on the BR series - are the speakons on the back paralleled? They're certainly paralleled on mine. Except for the ones I modified ;-)
