ben todman
Hi I have just been given a le maitre air cannon with no plug ( I have been told it works fine ) However do I need a le matrie controll box or would I be able to just make my own with a key switch and button. I realise the safety aspects of the idea. thanks ben
pyromonkey
The unit requires only a pulse of electricity so make sure you use a momentary switch
Russ83
Unfortunately, having looked at your age you shouldn't even be handling pyrotechnics till you are 18. Sorry but whilst your idea is fine, this is the law. Edit: Sorry I missed the crucial word 'air' in the OP. Thanks scjb
scjb
Fortunately, the Le Maitre Air Cannon is, as the name suggests, an aerotechnic device and not a pyrotechnic (albeit actually fired using disposable CO2 bulbs). With due regard for the direction of the cannon, it's a relatively safe and rather impressive effect. As Pyromonkey said above, a momentary fire button is recommended. The reason for the momentary is that the solenoid coil can be damaged if left powered. A keyswitch, and good wiring practice, along with a couple of PAT test certificates (you knew that was coming!!) all make for a professional approach. In extremis, you can just put a 13A plug on it, stick the damn thing into a wallsocket and flick the switch, but it's not the best approach. Don't forget your backpressure cap and lifting cup... they really do make a difference!
