LJS
Hey everyone, I've been thinking for a while about if it is possible to do digital/multimedia projection all around the perimeter of a room, a couple of meters up so it is above head height of the audience if they were sat 'in the round'. I relaise that you would have to probably creatre the art work for this, but what projector/projectors would you need. Are you able to buy lenses or prisms to do the job (such as 180degree projection lenses, or do you need to sync multiple projectors. I realsie also it may depend on the size of the room but as I dont have one in mind I will leave this as a generalisation. Any ideas greatfully accepted, Thanks. David Lee
Usually you would blend multiple projectors. Do a search here for blending for more info
sleepytom
The technique you're looking for is called "full dome projection" - needless to say it is complex and expensive. But it is totally possible. shows a full dome being setup with multiple projectors controlled and blended by pandora's box media servers. Obviously its a bit easier if you just want a strip of projection screen rather than the full dome with ceiling but essentially the techniques are the same (you need to get your head round polar geometry if your wanting to make good content for such a system)
GRisdale
Hippotizer offers a screen warp function that can do what you're asking. If you do a search for "Peter Pan Kensington Gardens" you'll find details of a show that did just what you're talking about recently. I think it was 4 projectors they used, with a Hippotizer HD on each. Gareth.
ImagineerTom
a lot more than 4, a lot more headaches and a great big bag of cash.
Dj Dunc
If I remember rightly (I did work experience on said show) It was 10 Barco 20k projectors used on that rig. Built into the sides of the stage. Amazing work!.
dbuckley
Get on the Eurostar, and goto Disneyland Paris, and visit Le Visionarium. Or read about it on Wikipedia. But given the choice, a quick train trip would definitely be my choice :) Edited to note - you better make sure that the attraction still exists though; I've now read the entire Wikipedia page and it seems it (the attraction, not Wikipedia) has closed. Which is a pity...

Incidentally, if you have the time to describe said headaches I, for one, would be very interested to hear them. Gareth.
