Wol
Hi. Welcome to the BR! If you put the DMX smoke machine at the end of the DMX chain ( so coming out of the DMX out connector on the fourth Mac), and address it so that its not overlapping with any of the Mac 250s. If youve got the first 4 macs addressed starting at 1, then my memory says that youll probably want channels 53 and 54? Usually the profiles for smoke machines have two channels: fan and amount, and these can be patched like you would with two dimmers, then you should be able to control it from your lighting desk. Hope this helps.
KevinE
Most KAM machines only have one DMX channel.
LXbydesign
I think Kevins right. Where you might have the option of varible output etc from its own controller, when you 'go DMX' you only have the option of smoke or no smoke!! - basically an on/off switch. Its the same on my snow machines. You can set the flow rate etc on its own controller, but then the DMX control is just on and off.
jimbobstc
so would that put the smoke machine under a fader or a fixture
LXbydesign
Well, in theory, it could be a fixture. depends if there is one on the current fixture list. Have a look on Zero's web site - failing that, you can either write one yourself or yeah, just patch it on a fader!

PaulDF
Doesn't it just use one or two normal DMX channels?
tokm
the fixture software from the website doesn't have kam down as a manufacturer. so what do I do?Just patch a dimmer channel at whatever address you've set the smoke machine to. If you don't have any dimmer channels spare on the desk (i.e. the desk only has 48 dimmer handles and you've already got 48 dimmers), just patch a dimmer or generic 1 channel fixture to one of the ML channels/buttons.. Again, at whatever address set your smoke machine to. HTH, T
Russ83
I'm unsure of the DMX specification for the KSM range, all I find on the web is 'Full 512 DMX control' so with regard to how many channels it uses I will leave that up to you (I would assume just 1). An easy way is to do as tokm says and just use the software to patch one of the dimmer channels but this means no smoke when the masters or Blackout are down. To create your own fixture download the Fixture Tools and install. Run the Fixture Type Editor and select New (empty) fixture type. Double click on Manufacturers and type in KAM, now right click on KAM and select Add Fixture Type. The name is obviously KSM DMX 1750 then go to Parameters, right click in the white space and select Add Parameter. The name can be whatever you wish, Level or Pump are common then set its attribute to be Beamshape so that it is not affected by any brightness controls/masters. Leave all the other setting as they are, if the DMX1750 uses more than 1 channel then add another parameter and set as beamshape as before (make sure you get the Channel (LSB) in the correct order). Goto File and Save your fixture to floppy disk.Insert disk into the desk and assign the fixture as normal from the floppy disk and then manually patch it to the correct address.
