Multicore with stagebox on both ends?

Hi,

Around a month ago, I'm sure I found a supplier who sold a 30m multicore with a stagebox on both ends, for around £200 ex-VAT. (£230 inc VAT)

I've now got permission to order the cable, but foolishly I omitted to add the site to my favourites and now I can't find it again!

It's for a school hall, where we want the normal stagebox on the stage, then the other end will have the reverse connectors. It is the school dinner hall / assemblies / playground / everything so there's no dedicated sound booth. There's an area at the back where we can wire the stagebox to but fly-leads will not be practical with the kids around - the intention is to leave the multicore in permanently.

Can anyone shed any wizdom on which supplier this might have been? Or any suppliers who sell multicores with stagebox on both ends?

Thanks,

Peter

Would a panel mount multi pin socket at FOH not be more useful? Then you'd just need one plug - tails which would be a bit quicker & easier to plug up when you need to plumb the desk in. Possiblt less flexible though. Just thinking out loud ;)

At the risk of sounding lo-tech...

Why not go for a standard multi-core with flying ends and simply have it terminate inside a lockable cupboard at FOH? That way there's no faffing about with multi-pin connectors (which let's face it are going to last all of about a week in a school enviroment!) or separate looms (what a pain in the backside that will become having to patch in and out every afternoon and evening of a production run).

I'd say it was also far more tamper-proof than a predominantly male stagebox given the opportunity for prying fingers, pieces of chewing gum and any other number of alien bodies to be introduced to it during your average school day.

Just my £0.02.

Van Damme would make you one with a box on both ends. Probably more than 200 quid, though...

Thye do indeed and is it definately more than 200 quid! However, you can adjust the specification to suit rather than have to stick with off-the-shelf solutions. You can either get this system with the stageboxes attached or alternatively with one of the boxes separate and the cable wiring stripped and prepared for soldering on yourself - ideal if the cable has to be run through a wall or conduit first.

The multipin options is also good but it will jump your costs up significantly so I would doubt it would be an option in this case.

All that for £200?

This is exactly what I would say.

The snake can be obtained from anywhere. Should easily get your metal/wooden box and multi for £200 all together.

Check out Thomann item no. 128537. 30m long 16/4 stagebox-tails. £110. Surely you could build a box and secure it for £40, thus saving £50 from budget towards other gear?

We have a multi-purpose room here with an installed multicore that has a box at both ends. The box at the FOH end is actually hidden behind a wooden panel when not in use. However we've found the plugging & unplugging of the looms that connect it to the desk to be such a pain, that we've now modified the way this box is mounted to enable us to fit the looms in behind the panel as well and leave them plugged in all the time.

So, with the money available, I'm recommending the tails-in-a-box solution too.
