mrlamplite
Hi, Although I have read the forums for a number of years this is the first time of posting anything. Whilst you have the wiki pages detailing lots of information associated with the industry have as anyone considered producing videos showing the information? Recently I came across a video on youtube detailing the folding of a drape. The company/people folding the drape clearly had no idea what they were doing and I could see the potential or possibility for non industry professionals or younger people starting out to use videos such as this (see below) as a benchmark. What are your views on this? It would take a lot of work but it could be useful as a means educating people in stage craft etc. Cheers Steve Here is a link to the Youtube video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXUrp4xopYM
Dodgecaliber
Absolutely nothing wrong with folding a drape like that. I know several nationwide companies who like to have theirs stowed like that - Especially if it's being stored amongst others in a drape bag. indyld
What are your views on this? It would take a lot of work but it could be useful as a means educating people in stage craft etc. I think, sorry KNOW, that businesses are going to spending time and effort producing more educational content if they are serious about building brand awareness online and not just blowing all their budgets on dubious Adwords campaigns. So, standby for a deluge of stagecraft vids. I also think that particular video is hilarious and that the makers of it already enjoy a siginificant amount of "brand awareness" in this business already ;-) // Edit to add: Forgot to mention. If anyone knows anything about folding ......
TomHoward
The info in the video seems sound enough to me - if that's the way they want their darpes folded on return it's up to them. The bit I don't get is the disorganised beginning and end - "Is it recording?" etc. However, other than quick bits like how to re-lamp a PAR can, or an online tutorial of DMX address theory etc, I can't see video as a substitute for real, hands-on experience. I do a little (very little) bit of teaching, as we have some summer schools in our venue, and one of the most useful things is seeing how your content is being recieved, and if they're understanding what you're trying to get across, or whether you need to explain some areas more clearly or differently. Each session varies in content and depth according to who I'm explaining it to, and I can't see that being possible via Youtube.
michael6388
Generally when folding drapes, I try to ensure that the top edge is the first edge I come to, and as in this case the chap told us this top edge has a label attached giving details, I would make extra sure that it was not buried deep inside.Which I suppose goes to show that for every one person who has the RIGHT method, there are two others who have an equally right, and completely different, method!
