CARWYN
hiI dont know if this is the right place for this but what I am after is I need to have a spiders web in a uv scene but we have a lack of room on stage and what we were thinking of was to fly it in and out but we have not got a fly tower we have a fixed rig. so my question is what way would you rig this. the web can ither be tied to a frame or not
paulears
How about putting a track up and just wiping it on. A web won't take up much wing space, and can be gathered and got out of the way.

paulears
perhaps you'd better tell us what you do have then? We could keep guessing all week?
Jamtastic3
Why not make a big rectangular frame from black PVC piping and then use UV reactive string. Then just push it on from the wings...? If you do have space above your stage, then you could fly the frame from an upstage lighting bar via a pulley system.
CARWYN
just to be clear that we just have fixed grid which consists of aluminium bars running accross stage and up and down stage and the area that we need to use this spiders web just consists of these bars. but we need to have it flown cos we have loads of things happening at floor level
stillwave
Hi, if the cloth is only used once per show (or per half) then what about having a gauze type cloth with the web on then have a roll drop which is released by a line then follow that by a kabuki drop for the cloth off the bar to strike the cloth (the kabuki drop will need space on the ground & the stage to be clear when striking the gauze). I'm guessing here but with limited space & no flying it sounds like a small venue? thinking outside the box... what about one of those projection screens that rolls up? all that would be needed is someone with a pole to drop it in? edit: I think you can buy those screens that have a eletric motor to lower them in? Jivemaster
Are you aware of the "Lastolite" range of photo studio reflectors? Some quite large and all fold small by virtue of their springy edging material. You could get a black one and paint the web onto it then have it in the grid rolled up and let it spring out on cue. 18"DIA packed springs out to about 4-5ft DIA. You would then have to drop it remove it retwist it and rehang it for the next show. A concurrent post has been automatically merged from this point on. http://www.lastolite.com/originalreflectors.php
paulears
If you have a bar, can't you just put a track up? You can hire track fairly cheaply, and for something simple like this that doesn't weigh much, surely you could fix a taught line below and end to end and wipe it on with small washing line style pulleys? We're not talking about anything weighty. Boom type stand of brackets, dangling downwards, some thin nylon rope as a carrying line, and then the web dangled from the pulleys.
