HK Actor DX mid/low power-on warning tone

Hi all,

I have recently replaced the drivers in my HK Actor DX115 A subs. When powering up for the first time one of the subs is performing as it should, sadly the other is not!

The power-on light is flashing intermittently with a "beep" sounding every second. I have checked the obvious speaker terminals round the wrong way but all looks ok. The positive wire is connected to the positive terminal that then distributes the same signal to the unpowered subs, the same with the negative.

Does anybody know what causes the warning tone and also what else I should double check? I have my multimeter in my hand ready to investigate!

Thanks,

Greg

Hi Greg,

Have you checked the new driver to make sure its OK? I had a quick look in the user manual about the warning tone, but no mention of it - although it does sound like a factory-programmed error message. Have you checked any and all fuses within the amp module?

Have you tried contacting HK directly? I would do this, if your new driver appears to be OK. If I had to trust my gut, I'd suggest that might be a warning for a blown driver, or something along those lines...

Cheers,

Mike

I received a prompt and friendly reply from the good guys at HK:

the beep sound is coming from the built-in power amp module and shows that the switch mode power supply is trying to start up but fails with its start-up attempts. The reasons for this are numerous. First you should try to check if the unit powers up correctly if you disconnect the speaker again. With this information you should then contact our UK service partner JHS

info@jhs.co.uk They will help you with this issue. Best RegardsMichael Bohlender

I would guess that JHS will ask me to send the unit in if the beep persists, however I will take their advice and try disconnecting the speaker first. As always I will let you know how I get on.

Cheers,

Greg
