JBL PRX problem

Hi there,

I have a pair of JBL PRX 525 speakers. In two years, I have only used them for 3 gigs and about half a dozen rehearsals.

Last time I used them, I discovered that the upper 15 inch speaker in one cabinet didn't seem to be working, while the lower speaker on the other cabinet wasn't working either.

Is it possible that I have bought 2 faulty (brand new) cabinets ? Or is there something I could possibly be doing wrong ?

Thanks in anticipation.

Iain

What do you use the speakers for, do they rattle or make any noises as you move them about, and what are you powering them with? Have they been pushed hard over extended periods at any point?

How competent with electronics are you?

what are you powering them with

The PRX525 are a self-powered speaker with 'Crown' switching amp, though they're designed by Crown and made by Harman.

I've had samples of the PRX range with faulty IDC crimped ribbon cables which interconnect the power stage to the DSP stage. If you're ok making these cables, this might be a cure.

The PRX amps arent for the faint-hearted and the boards look like they've come out of a mobile phone.

Thank you,

They are self powered cabinets and there is no rattling or anything. They have never been pushed hard.

Thanks.

Thanks. I have no knowlege of electronics, so I dare not even open the cabinets. I guess I should find an engineer.

Thank you.

That'll teach me to use Google :P

It may be simpler for you to talk directly to JBL. With some DSP-based electronics, engineers seem to increasingly be sending items for repair directly off to the manufacturer for repair, and adding in a 'middle-man' charge. Not that this always happens, but it seems pretty common...

JBL may recommend an 'authorised' repair center...
