Hi newbie has bought a martin controller 2504 for my 3 812's I have flicked switchs on all 812's to protocol auto detect and daisy chained XLR's with a terminated XLR plugged in output on last light . switched on controller which displays the sequence 812 then version 1.1 ,then switch on lights they do there thing with there mirrors on start up. I press auto on the controller then enter then scroll number 1 press enter and nothing happens, light bulbs do not even turn on. am I setting these right or is my controller naff . I don't think its my lights as they work in stand alone music and auto trig mode when switched on the back of lights. Help what am idoing wrong ? :** laughs out loud **:

from memory back to 1997 when I bought mine - you have to set each light to a Martin fixture number IE, 1, 2, 3, 4 but not 4 in your case as you only have 3! none of the other switches need to be on.

The controller will then talk Martin proticol down the data lead and control the fixtures.

NB martin proticol is different from DMX

To check if the controller is broadcasting anything, turn on the lights first. After they've reset, turn on the controller. This itself should force the lights to do another reset. If it doesnt, then either the lights arent receiving anything or the controller isnt transmitting at all.

Spot on! I too bought 4 in the mid 90s... I now have eight +1 spare B-) they multiplied when I wasn't looking :** laughs out loud **:

I never figured what the autodetect thing was about, it never 'did' anything  I got the impression it was for when you went from Martin protocol to DMX and back again, but you would have power cycled the units anyway and they can auto detect without going in to a special mode first

maybe it was a legacy function in the CPU that was left behind from early incarnations...... ;)

Just a hunch here...

If you were previously using a standard DMX desk with your 812s, you were probably using a DMX cable that flipped pins 2/3. The 2504 output already has pins 2/3 flipped, so you need a straight-through connection from the 2504 to the 812s.
