MATTJSTMARYS
Hi, We have a Stand Cantata Followspot at my school where we work but it does not have a dimmer like shown in the picture below it just has a cable with a switch and 13amp plug. Where can I get a dimmer and cable for this followspot (the cheeper the better) and does the followspot take a standard IEC connector? http://www.usedlighting.co.uk/files/imagecache/product/images/UEQ-CANTATAFSKIT.JPG thanks Mattj
charl.ie
It takes a heat-resistant IEC connector (the one with a notch in it). I think any single channel dimmer would be suitable. However, if you're looking to go for it on the cheap, a "blackout gel" will work and doesn't look too bad.
Andrew C
I saw some single dimmers on UsedLighting last email they sent around; HERE!
boatman
It takes a heat-resistant IEC connector (the one with a notch in it). ... No it doesn't. The Strand Cantata takes a C15A (155°C) connector. The standard C15 (120°C) hot condition connector will not fit. See this page for the difference. Unfortunately they are becoming very difficult to find nowadays. Mr Steve
Usedlighting have the 'Extra Hot Plugs' here http://www.usedlighting.co.uk/category/1/38/43 for £4 each. They do fit the Cantata. You need any single channel dimmer that will take a 1200w load.
stevep
you could get someone to build a dimmer for your school - decent electrical suppliers should be able to get a 1kw household dimmer switch. ( we have two cantatas we occasionally rent out as followspots and that's what we've done) steve
mutley
For our followspot, we use one of these They're quite often on offer at CPC, but even when they're not, they're only £62.50.
Robin D
But the standard Cantata is 1200w! Plus I respectfully suggest you need some headroom so ought to be aiming for 6A continuous minimum! Area dimming devices are available for about £120 from wholesalers (typically rated at 1500w) but these are wall box mounted so you would need to have a safe housing and good heat dissipation so realistically are not a good option. Best to keep your eyes peeled for a pukka single channel dimmer designed for purpose with all the safety aspects taken into account. Edit: This in reply to Steve P. Mutley poked in between! :** laughs out loud **: B-)

adamharman
Cheapest source of extra hot (155C) IEC plugs I've found is Farnell. The description of the right angle one is wrong - it's 10 amp not 16 (which is a different connector completely) and does fit the strand lanterns. http://uk.farnell.com/apsa/1148-sw/plug-ie...lack/dp/1216335 http://uk.farnell.com/apsa/1048-sw/plug-ie...lack/dp/1216336
