DMX/RGB light system help needed!

Hi all,

First time poster here in dire need of some expertise!!

We are currently in the process of building a bar room at home. The room is about 14x14m and will consist of a combination of lights separated into zones for separate control.

Zone 1 is a ring of DMX capable RGB downlights. There are 5 of these. The client wants to be able to set the RGB light to any colour in its available spectrum as well as being able to set it automatically cycle through the different colours. These require a 24v DC power supply.

Zone 2 consists of 2 rings of 15w single colour dimmable downlights. About 10-15 of these. These are not DMX. They require a 12v DC power supply.

Zone 3 consisits of a RGB strip light for the bar and RGB wall washers for the bar shelves. These are also NOT DMX. They have RGB connections which consist of 4 wires, blue, green, red and a black wire for the 12v power. I am not sure if these can be connected to a DMX plug and used in a DMX system. I think this would be a good option if this is possible.

Zone 5 will be a single dimmable downlight. To overhang over the poker table Single colour, 12v DC.

Any tips on how to connect all these lights up to a single system would be great! The lights I got come with a rgb controller and RF remote to change modes etc, but this is not preferred (remotes can get lost!). Idealy we need a wall panel to control all the lights.

Can anyone suggest a good wall panel and system for my requirements?

Thanks in advance

Hi,in this case it is better to use DMX for your all the RGB/Singal color lights. Actually the lights you have in zone 3 could be connected to a DMX-PWM power supply and you can use DMX controller to control them.

Why not take a look at www.nicolaudie.com ,the STICK wall-mounted DMX controller could be a choice. It is possible to control 5 zones seperately.

This bit might be the stumbling block; the single colour 12V ones are easy enough to sort by using a dimmable transformer connected to a DMX dimmer.

How do these ones work, exactly? I'm guessing when you mention a single black wire for the 12V power, you mean as the negative, and you just apply 0-12V power to the red green or blue wires as required? If it's not like this, then it could get complicated.

If that is how they work, then you could be looking again at dimmable transformers, one for each colour.

Maybe you could tell us what these RGB lights are, or give us some more information on how they work?

Try having a chat with Zero88 - I was down there last week and they have a really nice system for this sort of thing. It's a wall mounted control panel about the size of a light switch. Can't remember the name of it but I'm sure their website would be a good starting point.
