ace
Just a very quick question.. Does anyone know if there would be any issues with connecting a 30W fluorescent tube into a fixing with a ballast desighned for an 80W tube? Many Thanks!
PaulDF
The ballast will pulse too much current into the tube in starting conditions causing premature failure, the tube may explode, the tube life will be dramatically reduced, the ballast may overheat causing it to burn out or catch fire!!!...I personally think this is a bad idea!!!It may be worth purchasing a 30W fitting from your local electrical wholesalers for about £10. paulears
are not most 80w ballasts using starters labelled 4-80w? rather indicates that ballasts are peak rated.
WiLL
'most' being the operative word. Just take a peak at all the mumbo-jumbo on the side of the ballast. If it just says 80watts, don't do it. If, as Paul says, it has a range which encompasses 30 watts, then no prob bob, go for it B-)
Jivemaster
The starter is range rated, the Ballast is rated for the specific tube, Use the correct tube and ballast
ace
Many thanks for your replies! Well you live and learn! - I am glad that I asked rather than just assumed it would be OK! I have been and bought the correctly rated ballasts for the tubes, so thanks for your thoughts!
