Alcora zero 88 Remote Go

scope

Recommended Posts

I use an Alcora zero 88 desk in school in a small theatre setting. I want to know more about the use and possible applications of the remote go facility on this desk as there is little explanation in the manual I have. Any help is greatly appreciated.

There's really not a lot to know, it's all in the manual on page 41 (Issue 1) or page 40 (Issue 2)...

"Remote Go

0.25” stereo jack socket.

Connect the sleeve to tip to simulate a GO NEXT button push"

...so by using this connector you can do anything that you can do by pushing the 'GO NEXT' button. Maybe use a footswitch to free up a hand; maybe link it to some other control system to synchronise sound and lighting cues; maybe link it to an external switch for use in unattended show playback or where a performer triggers their own cues.

You just need to connect any normally open switch to the jack socket on the back of the desk and it does exactly what the "go" button on the desk does, it's as simple as that. I've used a foot switch before when I'm doing LX and sound at the same time.

Not sure how the Alcora is wired, think some Zero88 desks had 2 functions on a stereo jack. If it's not in the manual, just email tech support at zero88.

Edit: Brian types much faster than me in the mornings.....

not used the Alcora recently, but the Bull Frog has similar features (can have up to 6 remote Go's, or go to cues) several ideas I seen, heard / used are:

- use as an extension to the SM desk so that simple (low staff) events can have a limited amount of control from stage

- to use as a practical joke during a panto run, when the Lx Op wonders one day why the desk 'has a mind of it's own!'

- to allow 1 Technician to Op Lx & Sound on dance shows (makes it slightly more interesting!)

- to enable the FOH Manager some control of the houselights (if on the same universe / desk controlled)
