SLM-285
Hi guys, It's been ages since I was last on this forum, it's good to be back. Does anyone know of any free wysiwig software, i.e. software that lets you see your designs of the stage (including the light and sound set up)?I really appreciate this guys Thanks SLM285 EDIT: I now appreciate that I have put this in the wrong sub section, But I can't move it to the general area, sorry, if any admins are about can you do that? oopssorry Moderation: "The Next Generation" is fine for any questions from students! Grum
WYSIWYG is not free, although I'm pretty sure you can download a free demo version from the Cast website. There are quite a few other packages about, try a search for "lighting visualisation software"
Joe Bleasdale
ESP, Light Converse and Martin Show Designer also have free versions, available from their websites. I am certain that ESP can connect to an offline version of some consoles. I hooked up ESP and H3PC a few months ago. If you just want to practice programming, it is great! The easiest way to make it work is to use a 1 (or 2) external monitors with your laptop/PC and use them as an extended desktop. This way you can see all the relevant screens in one go. I am not to sure about the others; it would be worth checking on their product support forums. I am a Hog programmer, so I tend to use H3PC (or a Hog console) with Light Converse unlimited. Between console and computer, it’s just an Ethernet connection. Pretty simple. You could also use GrandMA Offline and use the MA visualisation software (MA 3D). Both of which are free. Which console do you use or have in mind? However you do not need a console as those packages can provide a programming surface within them. Hog and MA were just two examples, if you are not a full blown programmer, I wouldn’t look at them. Go for something that can connect with your console or one that provides a suitable surface included within it, for you to work on. Now, what exactly do you want to do?? Program the lighting? Just design the rig and produce plans? These will heavily impact your choice of software. And at the end of the day, you get what you pay for... If you get a demo version, you will be limited to what you can do. Best Regards,
SLM-285
Now, what exactly do you want to do?? Program the lighting? Just design the rig and produce plans? These will heavily impact your choice of software. And at the end of the day, you get what you pay for... If you get a demo version, you will be limited to what you can do. I'd like to be able to just design plans and so on, because the problem is at the moment, because I am, shall we say not the most experienced lighting designer, I'd like to be able to see my ideas at least before I attempt to put them up and find that my idea is not possible, due to limitations of the stage or the equipment. (as is so often the case :) ) So I'd like to have software in which I can build the stage and use the lights I would be rigging. It's asking a lot but nothing is impossible. However, if I could program the lighting like that also then its a bonus. Even though I might need a little help with it. Thanks SLM-
