Chris_H
Hey, just looking for a bit of help, I have a bit of money and as I'm going out into the big wide world now it thought I'd better build my tools kit up a bit, I remember using podgers as an alternative to spanners in college and just wondered where I could find them to buy and what sizes I would need (I remember using 17's and 19's(I think) thanks alot any help apreciated Chris

MartinT
I love the breaking podgers from flints - great for boom arms, although they have a nasty habit of nipping the skin of the unwary. But I couldn't be without my trusty Quad spanner(s) both from Flints. (I should just get my paycheck directly mailed to them :D )
gareth
17mm and 19mm are the most useful sizes to have in your tool kit - they equate to M10 and M12 respectively. 21mm is also useful as this is 'scaff clip' size. I'll second Tekkie's recommendation of the quad spanner from Flints - it has the above three sizes, plus 13mm (M8) all in one ratcheting ring spanner. It has to be one of the most useful tools I've ever bought. The quality of them is great, too - really solidly made, not the sort of tool that's going to fall apart rapidly if it's used and abused on a regular basis. WiLL
Mmmmmmmm Quad spanner. No self respecting tool kit should be without one.
Brian
Having been around a bit I've come to appreciate nice tools. My briefcase has 3 tools in it... Flints Quad spannerCK 46-piece screwdriver set, see 236-1773 from RSBottle opener/corkscrew with those and a leatherman wave I can do 95% of all jobs. andy_s
I'm still considering adding the 46mm / 50mm podger to the company tool kit. My plan would be to take it on tour - then get my toolkit out before we open the wagon, and take a photo of the faces of the local crew..... incidently, I did hear a rumour that there was an alternative supplier of podgers and quad spanners other than Flints, but I've never been able to track them down. do Flints have exclusive import rights? they come from Japan I believe. Stu
I've been looking around for Quad Spanners and can't find anything on another site so it wouldn't suprise me if they were exclusive importers of the said tool. Gotta get myself one, but there must be some other places who sell them! Stu
peter
You can get Podgers from Screwfix, but I believe Flints are the exclusive UK importer for Quads.
Dazzler
The podgers are a good cheaper alternative to the Flints ones but remember - you get what you pay for. I'd always suggest going for the flints podger as it seems to be better engineered and the "podger" part of it is narrower than the screwfix one. It's better for lining holes up. Now I like my Quad spanner but do get annoyed when using the smaller head of the rachet - the nut or bolt head keep slipping through!! Does anyone else find this? or should I just go and hide away in a corner? Dazza B-)
andy_s
just had a look at the screwfix website - they don't seem to offer podgers in useful entertainments industry sizes - (i.e. 17/19, as mentioned above), so it's still Flints, it seems. just had a thought that this looks like I'm a tad anti-flints - I would like to be clear that this is definitely not the case, I go there a lot for all sorts of things.
