robhall3192
Have searched to try and find an answer, but cannot so could you try and help.We have a production where all the male hairstyles need to be heavily waxed/greased up...but one of the concerns is that the actors will start dripping the wax and loosing their hairstyles under hte hot lighting and with all the dancing around.]Whats the most effective way of keeping a hair style for a whole show? iamchristuffin
Is touching up in interval/between scenes not an option?
Ynot
Though I'm FAR from a wardrobe/perruquier type person, I would suspect the answer lies in the same vein as most theatrical effects. Use something to give the appearance of wax (if wax is in fact what you mean).I'd say that you likely don't need to use actual wax to give them a waxy look. As for keeping styles in place, if pukka hair gel/grease isn't enough then copious amounts of hair lacquer should do the job... Though I'm sure there'll be someone along in a mo with the experience to back this up, that's the way I'd be approaching this.
WiLL
I've never had a problem with good old 'Bryl-Creme' It's thick enough to look like wax, but I've never heard of it running in the heat.
robhall3192
good good, was just a question raised by a slightly inexperienced member of the team, and made me ponder. I notice that if I put bryll cream styling wax in my hair and sweat alot it can loose some of the density and become fluffy. BUt yes touching up between apperances is possible. deranged-angel
It's expensive but bed head by tigi make a hairspray called "maxxed out massive hold" that holds your hair like a rock without it looking solid. I don't know if you could wax the hair to get the style you want then spray some of this on? Could be worth a try Emma.
tolley1466
Seconded for the bed head stuff. Might be worth popping into a good hairdressers such as Jons.
mutley
When I worked in Lanzarote, we had a heatwave (even by their standards! = 43'C!), and the hair gel I was using didn't wilt, and it's not too expensive. Fructis. It's clear and colourless, and you can have wet look if you want. Once it has set, it's like concrete!I even went out for a "good old drinking session", crashed out on someone's sofa, and woke up in the morning with my hair just as it was! Jram
I put my mohawk up with silvirkin hairspray (the pink one is the strongest, how macho ) - it was 7 or 8 inches high and the most resilient it proved itself was the day I did it at 5am, flew to London, saw a gig from the front row, and went home the next day having been up for about 26hours straight. Hair intact. It also stands up to sleeping on it, and various other exertions too. You might also want to try the got2Bglued range if you can find it, I've heard good things but having found something that worked never tried it myself. Sam Jelfs
not had experience under stage lights, but I've managed to keep the spikes of my mohawk up in 30c+ heat using Dax Wax... it's amazing stuff, but worth getting hold of their shampoo as well, there isn't much out there that will get it out of your hair (though fairly liquid works well :) )
Guest lightnix
It's a bit of an old solution, but KY Jelly apparently makes an excellent hair gel, which has proved very able to cope with the rigours of the West End stage. Washes out in water, too - or so I'm told.
