Ian_P
All, I want to replicate that 60s look with projected coloured light, ie. those units that project liquid patterns of different colours. I think the original units had different colours of oil in them and light was passed thro' them. They were very common in my youth. (OK it was a while ago) How is this sort of thing done now? I have profile lights, or is it done with a special unit?
Wilf dLampy
You can use an projector, like the optikinetics Solar 250, fitted with an oil wheel. It is also possible to buy units which only do the oil wheel, but Solars (and similar projectors) with interchangeable wheels provide more flexibility. Andrew C
It was done for Pink Floyd concerts with an Over-Head projector, with a tray on top with different coloured oils in it. Probably still a cheap & easy way (with a lot of artistic scope) when compared to custom made projectors.
Just Some Bloke
My local hire company do oil lamps. Ask around and you should find somewhere local to you who'll do the real thing. They're not expensive. JSB
Mush
Opti Solars are still one of the brighter liquid effects and a lot else, but there are a few Far Eastern dedicated liquid lights. Youe looking for a liquid sometimes called oil effect, this is different from the wave/ripple effects about with ripple glass in them. Old school is OHP and watch glasses, the curved glass that covers a clock, with the liquids squeezed between the two. If anyone knows their chemistry there is an expired patent with a huge list of unmisciable (sp?) liquids, ones that wont mix can`t remeber ref off hand, if anyone is bothered will try and look it up.
