Louis sullivan NLS Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Hi For my dimmer racks at my am-dram society I have left my own 2Kg Carbon Dioxide fire Extinguisher. Someone has been using the stage for a party and have left the fire extinguisher with the pin removed and tamper seal broken. I suspect it has been used as it feels lighter than earlier. What can I do about it as it is not a legal requiremnet fire extinguisher ( I left it there for the protection of my equipment). It is not on a service contract of any kind as it is my property. Any suggestions
Ynot Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 If it's a refillable type, contact a local fire extinguisher service agent who will be able to, well, refill it.That's assuming it's not older than 10 yrs old.We have our extinguishers inspected/serviced every year - a condition of our insurance and part of the fire safety regs.
Louis sullivan NLS Posted April 20, 2009 Author Posted April 20, 2009 as far as I know it is less than 10years old because it is one of the new Ec red ones (not black) but just wondering if it is cheaper to get a replacement
Ynot Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Where are you?(Your profile gives us nothing to go on...)
adam2 Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 If you call a fire extinguisher firm to your premises for a single unit, the cost can be substantial especialy for co2 units which are normally taken away for filling, not done on the customers premises. Cheaper options would include taking the extinguisher to a service company, and collecting it, or having it recharged as part of a planned service visit to a venue. Alternatively, buy another for use and store the used one. Then when the second extinguisher is used/misused or needs servicing, get them both done.
gupster Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 as mentioned above refilling one extinguisher is costly I supply 2kg CO2's for around £50 with a ten year warrenty. Refilling would cost the same or more plus your time to take it somewhere. I supply 2kg powders for around £30 powders make a mess when set off but then if your equipment is on fire you would be worried about powder everywhere.
