hdiane4 Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 My daughter will be 16 on 23rd April and what I would love to organise is a sweet Sixteen Party on 25th April 09(But a poorer version then what is on the telly!) The Hall I have holds 80 people. I would love to decorate the hall with star cloth. I think there is a niche in the market for these events. I would love to start this off as there is nowhere in London that is suitable for the average mum to take their kids for an affordable night out. I would be so grateful if you would get back to me as I think this could be the start of something very special! Children today think that 16th birthday parties are more important then 18th birthday parties. Maybe someone out there would be prepared to put on a promotional night as you never know who will be at the party to start off a new business venture!I look forward to your reply. Thank you for taking time to read my message.Kind RegardsDiane Hill
paulears Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 There are quite a few firms who specialise in star cloth hire - here's one to start you off. The scary part is the pricing. Star cloths and to be honest, most drapes are pretty heavy, so you'll have to also factor in the method of supporting it. You might be lucky and find the venue you have in mind has something that can support them, but it's not very likely. You can buy them fairly easily, complete with the fibre-optics. A 6m x 3m one is going to set you back around £600 - so depending on the room size, this gives you the rough cost of the kit, and will put the hire charge into perspective. If you have some specific questions, maybe we can help - other than that, it's a bit of googling to find some suppliers who can give you a quote for supply and fitting - in our world, very often the hire prices quoted are for the cloth all neat and folded. You then have to work out how to get them up and hanging - that bit is often the most tricky. Quite a few of these bigger jobs use aluminium truss to support the weight - and that is going to add significantly to the bill! Moderation: PS - please just post once - most members use the view new post function, so saw both very quickly!

Be aware the bases really are all that heavy if you have many of them to move (18kg each IIRC, and you need one per upright). As to the gap in the market: Possibly but most of the existing events companies are very happy to do that sort of thing.
ian@prl Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 H'mm joins Blue Room at 5.37pm ,9 minutes later comes up with this wizard idea of room theming ,anyone intrested in that old chestnut of "promoting" there business ? " promoting " " sponsorship" " opportunity" .All a euphemism of " I want it for free" .Or I am I being a cynic ? .....bet she works in PR

This was infact a black gauzy cloth which had low voltage fairy lights stitched into it. It was lightweight enough to be hung on bog-standard net curtain wire (the white stuff that you stretch between two points). All fire proofed, of course. It was made by the chair cover company that also supplied the chair covers. The cost of manufacture was still way over £2k, but then we are talking about probably 20 metres wide by 3 metre drop.
helgrind Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Just to say if you're interested in starcloth hire and/or drapes then Blackout Ltd (in London) are your people however they could be a bit pricy for a small event. They're nice guys though so I'm sure they could sort out something small. They do everything from pipe and base all the way to Brit Awards size stuff. I have had experience with them before and am pleased to recommend them. Laurence
