peternewman
Okay thanks for the info Gareth. It seems on closer inspection that one of the pairs will be mic cable, or there will be mic cable in there as well or something, im not really sure. ;) I may not even end up using XLR5's and might make XLR3's and some adaptors. :) :** laughs out loud **:  Runs for cover Could someone confirm for my peace of mind though that lacking the wire braid will not matter, as it only has foil screening? The lack of a drain wire will make it a bit less pleasant to solder into the XLRs.
peternewman
Two insulated conductors twisted together with a 19/0.127mmtinned copper drain wire, and wrapped with an S-foilaluminium/polyester tape (aluminium side in). Screened pairslaid up together with overall polyester tape It has the drain wire, just not the wire braid, it has a foil one instead. :) PN
gareth
Ah, right - I misunderstood. The only thing I really have against braid-screened / helical-screened cables is that they can be quite nasty to coil - you can't 'flip' a loop into them as easily as you can with other cables. peternewman
So that should make this cable even better, it will coil nicely, be half the price yet still be DMX spec for shielding. Now I've just got to decide how much to get. :) PN
TomLyall
also worth noting that Avo tend to use the second pair on their desks, so connecting pins 4 and 5 can cause dangers if you happen to have power sent down them to/by a specific peice of kit. not that you should of course! :D
