stevieboi Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 Hi All I've noticed recently that the iris in one of my spots has developed a problem where the iris seems to be getting stuck. for example, it will stay large when the other 2 are small, or vice versa. it seems to occur more when the fixture is warm. performing an iris reset solves the problem for a short time. having taken the lid off, the iris moves freely by hand when no power is applied. however, when powered up, at certain DMX values the iris seems to go beyond its normal positions and hits the rubber stops at both ends, causing a clicking sound - it seems to want to go further than it should. However, no faults are displayed on the display when this happens. Im thinking this could be a fault with the sensor on the iris, but I'm looking for more advice before I start swapping parts from a fully working unit! Cheers

Cheers Most probably an error with the sensor, although it's possible that the stepper has some gunk in it which is causing it to jam up sometimes. I'd check the sensor first though, you tried cleaning it with some isoproypl?
stevieboi Posted March 28, 2009 Author Posted March 28, 2009 I assume you mean cleaning the sensor? not yet - do I need to clean both parts - ie the magnet on the iris and the receiving part? if the stepper motor - is it possible to clean these?

Yes I mean the sensor, they also mis-align if jogged by something, so make sure it's parallel to the surface of the iris magnet. I wouldn't advise opening up a stepper, as soon as you do you're 99% likely to screw it over and sieze it perminantly. If it's a standard black band motor (which from memory it is) then I'd reccomend getting a replacement from Abstract AVR, they will sell you the same motor as Robe, but are generally much much cheaper!
stevieboi Posted March 28, 2009 Author Posted March 28, 2009 where should the iris be to check the alignment of the sensor?
ChazHS Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 where should the iris be to check the alignment of the sensor? If you look at the assembly side on, so the motor shaft is facing up, make sure the sensor and the magnet are aligned, if you need further explanation I will have to take a picture of a unit. I'm afraid I can't think of how else to describe it.
