Rozztech
Hi all Finally we have been offered the money too update the sound system in our main hall/theater. Unfortunately only 2000 pounds but we can make that go far. Hall dimensions. width40ft length75ft height 25 ft We are thinking about possibly four full range speakers and two amps to power each set of speakers . planning on useing makie c300z's leaving us £1000 for amps . can anyone recommend some good amps for the space? must adhere to the spec's of Makie C300z.The hall holds 250-270 and is rectangular in shape. Any similar speakers also would be welcome suggestions! Thanks ,Sam Edit:fix numbers
Pyramid
HiI take it you meant to say £2000 and not 200! Would you be thinking of putting all 4 speakers at the front or a pair halfway down?If halfway down - problems, need a delay...If a pair either side it would probably be a better solution to just use 2 'better' speakers that give you more output. Bear in mind dispersion characteristics though! Andy Sorry, you were asking about amps!If you are dead set on Mackie(!) why not use powered version? 4 come in at under £2k. Rob_Beech
I'm guessing 200 pounds should be 2000 pounds edit : slow

tolley1466
I seem to be saying this a lot, but it really is effective - why not try buying an ex-hire system?
Sound In Gloucestershire
I work in a fun pub/club type place that has 4 of the Mackie C300's, im not so impressed, the SRM450's sound better, even though they are meant to be the same cab
Rozztech
Anyone got any suggestions of any other speakers?
johndenim
After using a pair of F12's for the first time this weekend I can heartily recommend them.OK so I have used them only once (OT, but thanks to Mr Beech for saving my a*s!) but for a 12" box they are great full range and have a certain 'smoothness' especially on vocals. linky A concurrent post has been automatically merged from this point on. Or should the link be this? ;)
Rozztech
after looking at the specs and as ive no experience of these speakers , I wonder would they quite easily fill the space? Sam
Killyp
Yes, much more so than the Mackies which will reach their limits quite quickly. I would avoid going down the multiple speakers/delay speakers route, for a ~300 seater this will be largely pointless, especially if you can get the speakers up high and angled down (maybe flown?). I would personally look to spend some of your budget on having the kit set up properly too.

Chris Adam
as you are a school, why not approach a company like Northern Light or Black light as they will do you a deal. Barkely dakers is the contact at NL and Karen Fairlie is the contact at Black light. Both of these companies frequently do school installs and have great links to most of the big distributers. Plus, they are local which will cut down on your shipping fees. For 2K you should be able to get something pretty decent. It also means local support if anything goes tits up. (ie, they could save your ass with something from the hire stick an hour before a show!! - always handy) Also, if you mention that I put you on to them, it may get you somewhere (chris from the Glasgow QMU to save you looking at my profile). good luck and let us know what you settle for. Rozztech
okay so ive established , only two speakers (spend more get better ones). and in tearms of powered , ive used srm450's many times but is there a better type of powered speaker amounting to aprox £1000 per cab? Ta Edit: Thanks Chris I was planning to phone nl about this too , ive got contacts there and use the hire services regularly. looking at ex hire it was my understanding that mostly nl used d&b's witch would be too expensive for our budget? Killyp
Really, you'd be wanting something like a pair of E9s + E-Pacs which ex-rental would still set you back far more than your budget can afford. It's worth having a look around though, somebody may be selling something at a silly (low) price. I would avoid powered speakers. Good for budget/pub/small DJ systems, but next to useless for more large-scale systems.
