Brian Posted June 18, 2004 Posted June 18, 2004 Hi Ellis I need to correct one of your points... CE marking is mandatory for products being retailled. it is not mandatory for Trade sales.Correct on the first part but not quite on the second. CE marking applies to products sold for end use. If you buy a product to sell on then it doesn't need a CE mark when you buy it but it will need one when it leaves you if you sell to an end-user. It does not matter if the end-user is an individual or a company. This means that, with a few exceptions, components do not need (nor must they carry) a CE mark. have you ever seen the CE sticker on the packaging of a chinese made product - added by the importerexactly, the CE mark is applied when the goods are placed in the (EU) market either by a manufacturer or the importer. The CE mark is not a European equivalent of the old kite-mark. Consequently a CE mark is not worth anything in reality.Very, very true.
Ellis Posted June 21, 2004 Posted June 21, 2004 Thanks for the correction Brian, My only experience is from the manufacturers point of view (working in the engineering department of a company who make dynamometers). In such an environment, even the calibration of a fitter's multimeter may have a bearing on compliance with some standard! Regards Ellis
Robe575xt Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 Hi, I saw this thread and it is along the lines of what I wanted to ask, so I thought I would add to it if you good folks don't mind? I have a few Thomas Par Cans, with a 3-core cable going into the can, the earth is bonded to the can, and the rear portion of the can is bonded to the front section of the can via a single core cable. The question I am asking is two fold, firstly do I need to cover the ceramic lamp holder to comply with modern regulations, i.e. making the can a class 1 or class 2 devcice, if yes is it possible to by covers that retrospectively fit over the existing ceramic or is it simply a case of scrapping the existing lamp holder and starting from scratch? Many ThanksChris Moderation: Post moved from this thread to here, as it's more relevant. Please can users only reply to this new question, not the earlier topic.
