nickkinix Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 hi, can someone tell me where I start with set painting? I have done a few now with my local am dram group and I really enjoy it. is there much work out there and can someone tell me the average earnings please?thanks!
Tom Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 The best place to start might be by doing some for your local am dram group - so you're heading in the right direction. Many of the Theatre Schools and Colleges run scenic art courses - I'm fairly sure Central School of Speech and Drama in London does. Or there may be courses at places that are more design orientated - St Martins College again springs to mind. In fact Googling Scenic Art Courses brings up lots of options. You could try and find a scenic artist near you who could take you under there wing and maybe give you some more experience. Or maybe a local rep theatre or scenic construction company. (if you add your location to your profile people may be able to make suggestions). As to money - no body in this industry is paid particularly well. But a good scenic artist, who's in demand can make a reasonable living. A good, experienced freelancer might be able to ask between £200 and £300 a day - but they will have some over heads as well. T
