ASL radio cans

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks,

I have got 4 x ASL wireless belt packs (WS19) and an WS400 base unit. I have had 2 belt packs for about a year and got another 2 near the end of last year. We had a bit of bother on the first job they were on but after a bit of tweaking got them to be stable. On using them again last week we had a load of bother with them cutting out and not being able to get all 4 to work at once on 1 evening then the second evening they were all fine till half way through the first act then 2 of us could here and not talk. They system has had very little use and cost a small fortune anyone had similar problems. I have been in touch with who they were bought from and still waiting to here back from the manufacture.

Many thanks

Barry

Based on the scant information you're providing, I would say, in order of most likely > least likely:

  1. Broken aerials on the beltpacks - not cheap to replace, but they are surprisingly fragile beasties.
  2. Base station not set up for full duplex operation and more than one of you is trying to talk at the same time.
  3. Dodgy connection in the headset XLR connector. Trim lead and resolder.
  4. Dirty or damaged contact on the PTT button on the beltpacks. It's a crappy little bubble switch on the PCB under the button and gets dirty really easily. Do you have hard plastic buttons or the soft rubbery ones? The soft ones are a lot worse in this instance. Take the top off and try some contact cleaner.

If you can give a little more detail on the symptoms maybe we can narrow it down more, but that's a list of the most common things I've come across with ASLs.
