the kid Posted June 1, 2004 Posted June 1, 2004 I've just got my Apollo package with the list of gobos, gels and dichroics and was wondering if you can get made up or if there's a company who will do dichroic gobos for generic lanterns (cantarta etc). I know that you use dichroics insted of gels for moving head's like mac's and vari-lite's but I was just wondering because on or two of the fire ones would look really good for out rock concert.
vinny baby Posted June 1, 2004 Posted June 1, 2004 I dont know why you shouldnt be able to get them, take a note of the glass gobo size, and also the image size, of the required gobo you need. contact DHA, they are very helpfull, the coloured gobos are slightly more exspensive than standard ones, so be prepared. I have just had some monochorme glass gobos made for the colourspot 170AT, very small sizes, and they cost £150 for the pair. if your buying from stock, it should be cheaper, but the gobos you need are quite a fair size vince
TomLyall Posted June 1, 2004 Posted June 1, 2004 how about just using a standard or monochrome fire gobo and make some split gels for the 'firey' colours... http://www.gamcolor.com/catalog/splitgel/index.php
andy_s Posted June 2, 2004 Posted June 2, 2004 Rosco do something called a "colorizer" which is a glass gobo which can be used in conjunction with standard metal gobos in regular profiles like cantatas. (though needless to say you get better results with a source 4). any Rosco supplier should have them (eg Whitelight, Stage Electrics etc etc). They come in various colour combinations, and are a more sophisticated (because of their position in the lanterns optics) version of the split-gel technique described above, which is also a very effective way of getting colour gradation in "generic" lantern stock. The drawback of the colorizers is they are quite expensive and very fragile, and require the lantern to be correctly set up to work properly - if the peak/flat field adjustment isn't right, you run the risk of the gobo shattering in the gate because the heat isn't evenly distributed across the face of the gobo. They do look really nice though...rosco (edit - link added to rosco site)(DHA probably have them as well)
Kelite Posted June 2, 2004 Posted June 2, 2004 The Apollo 1-color, 2-color, and ColorScenic stock glass patterns are made to fit any lighting fixture- be it static or mover. The price isn't too scary, as we manufacture quite a large number of these for dealers as well as OEM use. Since there are SO many size variations available, we will make them per order. (Which is why they usually aren't in stock on a dealer's shelf) Keith Kankovskywww.internetapollo.com
