Coloured Lodestars

Hello All,

Can anyone see anything wrong with spray painting a lodestar? If I take the cases off and spray them away from the rest of the motor so none of the internals get covered. The motors are going to be used in an install and I would quite like them to blend in. I can't see any obvious issues but just thought I would see what opinions you guys had?

Cheers

Careful masking would probably be a better option - you can take the end covers off easily enough, but removing the entire casing requires major motor surgery. (Followed by competent reassembly and a fresh 'thorough examination' in a LOLER stylee.)

You should also bear in mind that warning labels, serial numbers, etc., need to remain legible.

Oh, and changing the colour/finish of the casing may have implications for cooling - you'd expect a shiny white Lodestar to run hotter than a matt black one. How much hotter I couldn't begin to guess, but unless the duty cycle is very high I imagine it would be trivial.

Personally, I'm with Henry Ford but other than the above - nope, I don't see any problems.

We re-spray a lot of our motors (and have been doing so for a number of years) to either do the 'Henry Ford' bit or blend in with a venues environment. Up to now we have never had any issues with noticeable heat variations and/or problems.

Seano has pretty well covered al the areas you need to aware of.

Awesome thanks guys, They will be brand new motors so I shall see if I can persuade LTM to spray them sort the testing out when I purchase them.

Once again thanks every one! Now, off to find silver beam clamps!
